Athletic Facilities

Baseball
Located on the Jopson Field Athletic Complex, the baseball facility has undergone renovations twice due to flooding, with the latest caused by Hurricane Fran in 1996.

The field is a bluegrass playing surface that was resodded in the spring of 1997. In the summer of 1999, the underground irrigation system was upgraded. The infield dirt is a natural clay-loam mix that is shipped in and added on a yearly basis.

The field measures 325 feet down the left field line, 375 feet in the left field power alley, 405 feet to straight away center, 350 feet to the right field power alley, and 305 feet down the right field line. Two yellow 25 foot foul poles rise above the fence to mark the foul lines. A gravel warning track surrounds the outfield fence. In 1998, windscreen was added to the outfield fence and the backstop. Yellow protective tubing was also added to the top of the outfield fence.

Two 75 foot hitting tunnels with concrete/astroturf surface were installed in 1997. The field also has four bullpen mounds, two dugouts, two on-deck circles, a press box with a PA system, two storage sheds, and an electronic scoreboard.

The grandstand provides seating for 500 spectators. Located behind the grandstand is a concession stand, training room, restroom, and a storage shed that provides accessibility and convenience to the field.

Basketball
The basketball facility was built in 1958 and seats 1100 people. Better known as Nininger Hall, the facility contains the gym along with coaches offices, classrooms, a training room, a weight room, team locker rooms, and a swimming pool.

Equestrian
The equestrian team practices, trains, and hosts intercollegiate horse shows at the Bridgewater College Equestrian Center, a year-round riding and training facility. This excellent facility is located about 15 minutes from the Bridgewater campus near Weyers Cave.  The Center includes two outdoor rings (one lighted), boarding facilities, 50 stalls, A 300 ft. x 140 ft. indoor arena, secure and heated tack room, fully-equipped classrooms and offices, full string of school horses capable of teaching all level of riders and a full complement of support structures (conference room, jumps, etc.). The BCEC is located at 102 Burketown Road, Weyers Cave, VA 24486.

Field Hockey
Located just behind Nininger Hall is Mapp Field. This field hockey facility was renamed in 1998 in honor of longtime coach and professor Laura Mapp. Mapp Field has a natural grass playing surface and seats 100.

Football
The Eagles football team plays its home games at Jopson Field, the centerpiece of the Jopson Field Athletic Complex. Jopson Field is a natural grass surface with a seating capacity of 3,500. On October 9, 1971, the field was named in honor of long time Bridgewater coach and professor Dr. Harry G.M. "Doc"? Jopson.

Lacrosse
Located on the Jopson Field Athletic Complex, the Bridgewater College lacrosse field is a natural grass playing surface with seating for 200 spectators. The field has an electronic scoreboard and a press box with a PA system.

Soccer
Located on the Jopson Field Athletic Complex, the Bridgewater College soccer field is a natural grass playing surface with seating for 200 spectators. The field has an electronic scoreboard and a press box with a PA system.

Softball
The softball facility, part of the Jopson Field Athletic Complex, was originally constructed in 1996, completely renovated in 1998 with permanent seating, enclosed press box, enclosed dugouts, scoreboard, bullpens, irrigation system for outfield and infield, and batting cages behind the center field fence. A new press box was constructed in 2009.

Opened March 12th, 1996, the Eagle Field featured fences 200 feet from home plate down the lines and 215 feet to dead center field. The stands can accomodate a crowd of 210 with ground seating down the left and right field line and behind the outfield fence.

Swimming
Bridgewater College's six-lane pool is located in Nininger Hall. The pool is 25 meters in length. The pool has a 14-foot deep end and four-foot shallow end.

Tennis
The Bridgewater College tennis courts are located adjacent to Nininger Hall. The facility features six courts.

Track & Field
The Bridgewater track team competes at Jopson Field. It is equipped with an eight-lane 400 meter all-weather track. Adjacent to the track there are long jump, high jump, and triple jump surfaces, as well as shot put, discus, and javelin throwing areas along with a pole vaulting area.

Volleyball
The volleyball facility was built in 1958 and seats 1100 people. Better known as Nininger Hall, the facility contails the gym along with coaches offices, classrooms, a training room, a weight room, team locker rooms, and a swimming pool.
