LYNCHBURG, Va. - Lynchburg College pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning Sunday afternoon to win the ODAC baseball championship with a 2-1 victory over Bridgewater College.
The Eagles scored their lone run in the top of the first. Devon Snow led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Nick Fulk. Bryan Sanderson then singled up the middle to score Snow for a 1-0 lead.
BC starter Corey Armentrout blanked the Hornets until the sixth when a run-scoring single by Michael Kenah tied the score.
The Hornets score the winning run in the bottom of the eighth. Ashton Paige led off with an infield single and took second on a sacrifice bunt. An infield error put runners at the corners and Kenah came through again, this time with a sacrifice fly to right for what proved to be the winning run.
Lynchburg starter Robert Garrett, the tournament's Most Oustanding Player, held the Eagles to just five hits.
Arementrout was outstanding in defeat allowing just five hits, two of those infield hits, in 7.1 innings. He struck out seven and did not walk a batter.
Named to the all-tournament team from Bridgewater were catcher Snow, outfielder Fulk and pitcher Dillon Via.
The Eagles, now 30-14, will close out the regular season next Sunday when they host Mary Washington on Senior Day.
