Eagles Top ODAC Preseason Baseball Poll

Eagles Top ODAC Preseason Baseball Poll

FOREST, Va. – The first three spots in the ODAC Coaches Preseason Baseball poll could not have been much tighter.

Bridgewater, Lynchburg and conference newcomer Shenandoah all received first-place votes and only two points separated the three teams.

Coach Curt Kendall's Eagles topped the poll with 92 points and four first-place votes. Lynchburg, the defending ODAC Champion, also received four first-place votes and was just one point behind the Eagles in the poll. Shenandoah raked in the other three first-place votes and finished third in the poll with 90 points.

"I think people looked at who we have coming back on our pitching staff and that probably put us at the top," Kendall said. "It's our goal to be there at the end of the season, but we realize just how tough the conference is going to be this season. I think the voting in the preseason poll shows that."

Kendall also believes there is quality throughout the conference.

"It's not just at the top, there are a lot of good teams in the conference. From top to bottom it's a good league. Teams throughout the conference are capable of beating you," Kendall said.

Randolph-Macon was a solid fourth with Guilford fifth and Hampden-Sydney sixth. Washington and Lee was seventh followed by Virginia Wesleyan, Emory & Henry, Roanoke and Eastern Mennonite.

The top three also received mention in the D3Baseball Top 25 released a week ago. Shenandoah was ranked No. 23 while Lynchburg and Bridgewater each received votes.

The Eagles open their season on Feb. 12 on the road against Ferrum College. Bridgewater plays its first home game on Feb. 23 when the Eagles host Messiah for a doubleheader.
