SALEM, Va. - Bridgewater College's Team Gold finished as reserve champion Sunday at the Tournament of Champions hosted by Hollins University. Bridgewater finished with 27 points, topped only by Virginia Tech, the winner of the show with 29 points in a very closely contested event.
The show featured 20 teams, including teams from as far south as Berry College and Savannah College of Art & Design, both from Georgia, and as far north as Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts.
Bridgewater senior Emily Woleck was reserve champion in the prestigious Medal Class in which 24 of the East Coast's top open riders competed as individual riders. The champion medal winner was senior Katie Furches from Hollins University. Bridgewater freshman rider Brooke Cole finished sixth in the event.
The top six colleges in the standings were Virginia Tech, Bridgewater College, Berry College, Savannah College of Art and Design, Hollins University Team Green and Hollins University Team Gold.
The individual finishes for the Bridgewater College riders were as follows:
Emily Woleck won the Open Over Fences and third in the Open on the Flat
Caitlin Hewitt was fifth in the Intermediate on the Flat.
Jamie Robinson placed third in Novice on the Flat
Ryan Carroll was second in the walk-trot-canter.
Lindsey Goode was third in the Novice Over Fences.
Kristina Glenn finished sixth in the Walk-Trot class.
Lindsey Barrett was seventh in Open on the Flat.
Shelby Goodman was sixth in in Open Over Fences.
Lindsay Ferguson was third in Intermediate Over Fences.
Savannah English was fifth in walk-trot-canter
Lauren Casey won the Novice on the Flat.
Katie Leonard was fourth in Novice Over Fences.
