Eagles Finish Second At Saturday's IHSA Competition

WEYERS CAVE, Va. - Bridgewater College hosted IHSA action Saturday at the Bridgewater College Equestrian Center and the Eagles finished a close second in the team standings.

Randolph College won Saturday's competition with 42 points. Bridgewater was close behind with 39 points and Sweet Briar finished third with 36.

The regional standings changed dramaticially again this weekend with Randolph taking over the top spot with 213 points. Sweet Briar is second with 210, just ahead of the Eagles with 208. The University of Virginia is the only other team with more than 200 points as the Cavaliers are fourth with 205.

The regional team title will be decided next weekend with the final two IHSA shows of the season. Hollins will host Saturday's IHSA show while U.Va. will host the final show on Sunday morning.

In the open division Saturday, Dana Paulding placed first on the flat and Taylor Rose placed third. Over Fences, Emily Manos took sixth and Rose finished second.

In Intermediate on the Flat,  Brooke Cole placed second and Danielle Wolklin finished fourth. Cole placed fourth in intermediate over fences and Kayla Deyarmin finished first.

In the novice classes, Jackie Tremblay came in fifth and Victoria Hatfield took second on the flat. Lane Hahn and Lauren Casey both took second-place honors over fences.

In Walk Trot, Bryn Gibson placed fourth and Shea Sutherland added asecond. 

Katie Gordon placed first in Beginner Walk- Trot- Canter. In Advanced Walk-Trot-Canter, Ashley Sipe took first place.

The standings are just as tight in the individual Cacchione Cup standings with three riders separated by just three points. Hollins rider Emma Lane Poole leads with 60 points, just ahead of Sweet Briar's Olivia Smith with 58 and Bridgewater's Taylor Rose with 57. The Cacchione Cup winner will also be determined next weekend.

The individual regional championships will also be decided next Sunday at U.Va. with an afternoon competition scheduled.
