Bridgewater Riders Place Third at Winter Tournament of Champions Show

WEYERS CAVE, Va. - Bridgewater College turned in a strong performance Saturday at the IHSA Winter Tournament of Champions event hosted by the Eagles at the Bridgewater College Equestrian Center.

Bridgewater welcomed 18 teams from 12 of the top equestrian programs on the East Coast to the BCEC for the show. The Eagles had two teams competing in the show with the Eagles Team Gold finishing the day in third place overall.

Savannah College of Art and Design placed first in Saturday's show with 33 points. Sweet Briar College finished as reserve champion with 32 points and Bridgewater Team Gold was next with 31 points.

For Team Gold, Meaghan Escobar led the way with a first-place finish in Walk/Trot/Canter. Zach Hinch placed second in Intermediate Over Fences and fourth in Intermediate on the Flat. Earning third-place ribbons were Kaitlan Parker in Open Over Fences, Emily Thomas in Novice Over Fences and Emily Unger in Walk/Trot. Parker was fifth in Open on the Flat and Thomas placed fifth in Novice on the Flat.

Leading Bridgewater's Team Crimson efforts were Amelia Johnston with a third in Walk/Trot/Canter and Jenna Chappell with a third in Walk/Trot. Michaela Bragg was fifth in Intermediate Over Fences and Morgan Taylor placed fifth in Novice Overs Fences. Earning sixth-place finishes were Emily Manos in Open Over Fences, Bragg in Intermediate on the Flat and Alexandra Szucs in Novice on the Flat.

Parker and Hinch competed in the Tournament of Champions Medal class with Parker finishing in fourth place.
