Riders Place 7th, 8th At Tournament Of Champions Winter Classic 2

BRISTOL, Va. - Bridgewater College sent two teams to the Tournament of Champions winter show at Emory & Henry College with the Gold team placing seventh and the Crimson team taking eighth.

A total of 15 teams representing 11 collegiate programs participated at the event with the Randolph College "Wild" team taking first with a total of 32 points.

Just four points separated second through eighth place in the standings. Savannah College for Art & Design Black placed second at the show with 28 points. Goucher, Penn State "Blue" and Emory & Henry all tied for third place with 27 points. The tiebreaker put Goucher in third, Penn State "Blue" in fourth and E&H fifth.

The Bridgewater Gold team tied for sixth place with the Svannah College for Art & Design Gold squad. Both teams finished with 25 points, but SCAD won the tiebreaker.

The Bridgewater Crimson team took eighth place with 24 points.

The Tournament of Champions show hosted by Emory & Henry concluded the 25th Anniversary season.

Savannah College of Art & Design won the Preseason Classic back in September with 45 points, a figure so high that everyone else was chasing them for Series Championship the rest of the year.  SCAD won their fourth straight Tournament of Champions Series Championship, with Randolph College settling in as Reserve Champion.

University of Findlay won Winter Classic 1 hosted by Bridgewater College.

Bridgewater finished fifth in the overall Tournament of Champions series with 64 points, just six points behind reserve champion Randolph.

Individually, two Bridgewater riders placed in the medal standings at the Winter Classic 1 show held at the BCEC. Samantha Van Winter placed seventh in the high medal class while Katelyn Dugan placed sixth in the low medal class. 

Bridgewater College leads the IHSA regional standings and the riders face a busy February with five shows on the schedule.

On Saturday, Feb. 11 the riders will travel to the Randolph College IHSA show and a day later the team will make the trek to Roanoke, Va., for the Hollins University IHSA event.

The Eagles will host their spring IHSA show on Saturday, Feb. 18 at the Bridgewater College Equestrian Center.

The following weekend, Feb. 25-26, the Eagles will travel to the Sweet Briar show on Saturday and the University of Virginia show on Sunday.
