Riders Place Sixth At Sweet Briar IHSA Show

SWEET BRIAR, Va. - The Bridgewater College equestrian team placed sixth Saturday at the Sweet Briar IHSA event. The Eagles finished with 25 points.

In the open division, Zellie Wothers placed fifth on the flat and sixth over fences. Nicole Hylton also finished sixth over fences. 

Emily Thomas took the blue ribbon in Intermediate on the Flat while Meagan Escobar placed third. Thomas added a third in Intermediate Over Fences and teammate Micaela McMullan finished fifth.

In the novice division, Katelyn Dugan was fourth on the flat and Caroline Shipe was third over fences.

Hannah Engle added another first for the Eagles with her performance in Advanced Walk-Trot-Canter.

Alyvia Elliott was fourth in Beginner Walk-Trot-Canter and Taylor Owens placed fourth in Walk-Trot.

Sweet Briar won Saturday's show with 46 points, followed by Randolph College with 40.

Randolph moved into first-place in the regional standings and the WildCats are now seven points ahead of Bridgewater.

The Eagles return to action Sunday at the University of Virginia for the final IHSA regional show of the season.
