Riders Place Sixth At ODAC Championship Show

ROANOKE, Va. - The Bridgewater College equestrian team placed sixth Wednesday at ODAC Championship show hosted by Hollins University.

All four riders from each team competed in two round of competition over fences and two riders from each team competed in the final round on the flat.

Riding for the Eagles were Samantha Van Winter, Zellie Wothers, Caroline Shipe and Katelyn Dugan.

The Top 10 riders at the show earned all-conference recognition. Bridgewater's Van Winter ranked seventh to receive the All-ODAC award. Van Winter scored 78 in the first round over fences and 80 in the second round. She wrapped up her day scoring 74.5 on the flat.

Hollins won the team championship followed by Sweet Briar, Lynchburg, Randolph, Washington and Lee and Bridgewater.

Lynchburg's Christina Antonucci posted an average score of 86.250 over the three rounds to top the individual charts and was named the ODAC Rider of the Year.

Hollins' Claudia Rowland was named ODAC Coach of the Year and Randolph's Kirby Tidmore was Rookie of the Year. W&L's Ashley Ooms received the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor.
