Field Hockey Nets Four All-Conference Selections

SALEM, Va. - Following a 9-9 season, the Bridgewater Eagles field hockey team landed four players on the All-ODAC team, including a first and second team selection. Junior Kalah Hess was the squad's lone first-team selection, while freshman Joan Burleson netted second-team honors. Junior Brianna Jacques and senior Christina Pybus both picked up Honorable Mention selections.
Hess' first team selection is her second first team honor in a row and the 26th time in school history that a field hockey player has earned first team All-ODAC honors. The Lancaster, Pa. native was a dominating force in the midfield for the Eagles and tallied four goals and five assists on the season. Hess is only the seventh player in Bridgewater history to be named first team All-ODAC twice during their respective field hockey career.
Burleson earned second team honors during her rookie campaign. The freshman started all 18 games and netted two goals for the Eagles. Burleson also recorded a pair of defensive saves.
Jacques turned in another solid effort, racking up nine goals and a team-best six assists on the year en route to honorable mention honors. The Orange, Va. native rolled up 25 points and one game-winning goal on the season en route to her third All-ODAC honor, following a pair of second team selections in 2007 and 2008. Jacques has scored 29 times in her three seasons with the Eagles.
Pybus, a native of Manassas, Va., earned honorable mention honors after turning in a career year. The senior was the Eagles' leading scorer with 13 goals on the season, earning the Old Dominion state native her first All-ODAC selection. Pybus' 13 goals were the highest for a single player during the 21st century.
Eastern Mennonite University picked up a pair of top honors and placed three players on the first team amongst the 2009 All-ODAC Field Hockey awards. The Royals' Alyssa Derstine and Karissa Sauder collected the Player of the Year and ODAC/Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards, respectively. Virginia Wesleyan College's Taylor Harding earned Rookie of the Year accolades, while Lynchburg College's Enza Steele and Washington and Lee University's Wendy Orrison split the Coach of the Year honor.
