Hess Named to All-State First Team

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Junior midfielder Kalah
Hess made it a perfect two-for-two in the postseason awards
category by being named a first team All-State selection in voting
conducted by the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association
(VaSID). Hess’ first team nod from VaSID comes on the heels
of her first team All-ODAC selection from earlier in the year.
Hess turned in another excellent year from her midfield post, with
four goals and six assists. The Lancaster, Pa. native started in
each of BC’s 18 games and netted the game-winner in
Bridgewater’s 4-3 victory over Shenandoah.
With the first team selection, Hess becomes the third Bridgewater
field hockey player of the decade to earn first team honors, with
Erin Spadaro’s selection in 2007 being the last player to be
on the All-State first team.
Lynchburg College senior attack Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James
River) earned her second-straight All-State College Division Player
of the Year Award. Taylor Harding from Virginia Wesleyan College
took home the state’s rookie of the year award while
Christopher Newport University mentor Carrie Moura earned coach of
the year recognition.
Bridgewater wrapped up the 2009 season with a 9-9 record and a
berth in the ODAC tournament.
