Field Hockey Drops 3-1 Contest at McDaniel
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Junior Kelly Ryan scored less than four minutes into the game, but the Bridgewater Eagles field hockey team couldn't hold off a McDaniel charge as the Eagles fell by a 3-1 tally on the road in non-conference action.
Ryan took a pass from Joan Burleson off a corner insert at the 3:40 mark of the first half to put the Eagles ahead early by a 1-0 margin.
McDaniel knotted the game up at the 17:15 mark when Paige Messersmith put the ball in the back of the cage to tie the game up at a goal each.
In the 21st minute, Sarah Meszler scored the first of her two goals on the day to put the Green Terror up by a 2-1 gap, before netting her second tally of the afternoon less than three minutes later to give McDaniel a 3-1 advantage.
The second half was all McDaniel as the Green Terror fired 10 shots in the final 30 minutes, but the Eagles defense kept the hosts off of the scoreboard. The Eagles also came up empty on their threee scoring attempts in the second half to fall to McDaniel by a 3-1 score.
The loss ended Bridgewater's three-game winning streak.
Bridgewater is back in action on Wednesday, October 12 when the team travels to Roanoke. Action is set for a 4:00 p.m. start.
