Field Hockey Tabbed to Finish Sixth in ODAC Preseason Poll

FOREST, Va. – After earning a trip to the quarterfinal round of the 2011 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tournament, the Bridgewater Eagles field hockey team was selected to finish sixth in a poll of the conference coaches released this morning.

Bridgewater earned 30 total points to slide in four points out of the top five.

The Eagles return a talented group to the fray in 2012, including 2011 second team All-ODAC selection Joan Burleson. Burleson has earned second team All-ODAC honors for each of her three seasons with the program and returns to lead the Eagles into a new season. 

Last season, the Eagles finished with a 9-8 overall record to mark the fourth straight year that the program ended a season with nine or more wins.

Lynchburg picked up eight first place votes and 64 total points to lead the ODAC Field Hockey preseason poll. Randolph-Macon collected 56 tallies, including the remaining top spot consideration. Eastern Mennonitesits in third place with 45 points, while Virginia Wesleyan and Washington and Lee close out the top five.

Shenandoah, the ODAC's newest member, was pegged to finish seventh with Roanoke and Sweet Briar rounding out the preseason poll.

Bridgewater opens the 2012 season on Saturday at Lynchburg College when it tangles with DePauw. Start time is set for 1 p.m.
