FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Bridgewater College field hockey team created more chances in their third game of the season against Mary Washington, but three second half goals gave the hosts a 4-0 victory on Wednesday.

After totaling just three shots on goal in their opening two games of a tough non-conference slate, Bridgewater (0-3) had the second half's first two shots on target.

Trailing 1-0, BC was on the front foot early in the second half. Tessa Tierson's shot was saved, leading to a penalty corner and another attempt from Elizabeth Washington that went wide.

Three minutes later the Eagles earned another corner. Freshman Karinne Moyer slipped a shot past the goalie, but UMW's Jackie Smith made a key defensive save.

A card slowed Bridgewater's momentum, and Bella Urcia then scored at the other end to double Mary Washington's lead.

The hosts got goals from Izzy Scholz and Lauren Hopkins in the final seven minutes to push the final scoreline to 4-0.

Bridgewater's Ali Bishop made four saves in a first half that was tied until the final seconds. Hopkins found Morgan LaRowe at 34:49 to put Mary Washington in front.

The Eagles will be on the road again Saturday at St. Mary's, before hosting their home opener on Sunday vs. McDaniel. Mary Washington, who is receiving votes in the NFHCA Top-20 poll, is 2-1 on the year.
