BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Bridgewater scored on two well-executed corners in the second half, but couldn't keep Lynchburg off the scoreboard in the second period of a 5-2 loss.

Trailing 2-0 at halftime, the Eagles scored early in the second on an outstanding corner play. Elizabeth Washington took a handoff from Laura Gretz at the top of the area, and passed it over to Georgia Howard for the shot from the left side.

BC had another chance just minutes later, but couldn't jam the ball in and were finally whistled for a foul.

After the Hornets went ahead 3-1, the Eagles struck on another corner. This time Tessa Tierson extended her scoring streak to five games, on a pass across the box from Emily Matisons.

Karinne Moyer made a defensive save with under four minutes to go but a penalty stroke was whistled. Nikki Simpao finished it off up high, and Jackie Lerro tipped in Taylor Green's shot right after the restart to turn a one-goal game into 5-2 in the final few minutes.

Lynchburg had an early corner in the first half, with Hannah Krause's shot blocked by a defender right in front of Bridgewater goalie Ali Bishop.

Bishop (11 saves) helped keep the game scoreless in the early going, saving a tip from Lerro on a Lynchburg counterattack. She then blocked an outside shot by Simpao.

Lynchburg attacked quickly in transition again, but Bishop made a kick save on Kayla Copeman.

Bishop made her best save of the half with about 14 minutes remaining. After blocking a shot by Lerro, she dove to her right to block the rebound attempt from Lerro.

Lerro finally opened the scoring in the final nine minutes of the first half, and Alexis Brown scored with 3:38 left in the period for a 2-0 Lynchburg lead.

Bishop made another great save in the second half to tip away a high shot by Simpao on a penalty corner.

Bridgewater falls to 4-8, 1-2 and will be home again on Tuesday against local rival Eastern Mennonite.
