VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Rookie Courtney Cooke scored in the final nine minutes to give the Bridgewater College field hockey team a 2-1 ODAC victory over Virginia Wesleyan.
Cooke knocked the rebound in after Tessa Tierson's shot had been saved by Skye Swain.
Jacqueline DiFulvio had finished off Emily Matisons' pass 9:30 into the game to put the Eagles in front. Isabel Lopez made a defensive save right after the restart.
The Marlins answered less than 10 minutes later however. Kaleigh Warren provided the stick stop on Hunter Majewski's corner and Elizabeth Roberto lifted a shot over BC goalie Ali Bishop and into the cage.
Bridgewater picked up a green card with under three minutes to go and had to go a player down, but won a penalty corner to kill off much of that time.
Bishop (8 saves) stopped Majewski late in the first half as VWU had a chance to go in front.
At the other end Elizabeth Washington was saved by Swain (6 saves), with the Marlins goalie then stopping Tierson after a BC corner.
Virginia Wesleyan had an offensive flurry early in the second half, with Bishop making four saves in a five-minute span.
Bridgewater improves to 6-10, 3-3 ODAC heading into Saturday night's season finale vs. Shenandoah at home. The teams will meet again next week in the ODAC quarterfinals, with Saturday's winner earning the right to host.
