Eagles Picked Sixth In Preseason Field Hockey Poll

The field hockey team was picked sixth in the preseason poll.

FOREST, Va. – The Bridgewater College field hockey team was picked sixth in the ODAC Preseason Coaches' poll released Friday by the conference office.

Defending ODAC champion Washington and Lee topped the poll with 62 points and six first-place votes. Lynchburg tallied 55 points with two first-place mentions to finish just ahead of Roanoke with 51 points and the remaining first-place vote. Shenandoah finished with 45 points in fourth place, followed by Randolph-Macon and Bridgewater. Macon edged the Eagles by one point for the fifth spot in the poll.

Bridgewater returns three All-ODAC performers, led by first-team pick Laura Gretz. Second-team All-ODAC selections Georgia Howard and Tessa Tierson also return. Tierson led the Eagles in scoring during the 2017 season with 25 points on 11 goals and three assists.

The Eagles are coming off a 2017 season in which they finished 7-11 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

Bridgewater opens the 2018 season on Aug. 31 when the Eagles travel to Christopher Newport.
