Eagles Win Second Straight at McDaniel

georgia howard looks to score against mcdaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Tessa Tierson and Georgia Howard connection continued, as the Bridgewater College field hockey team defeated McDaniel 2-0 on Tuesday.

The Eagles have now won two straight games, and their last three goals have involved Tierson and Howard combining.

A streak that began with Tierson's overtime winner off Howard's assist on Saturday vs. St. Mary's continued as each Eagle scored once and was involved in the buildup of the other goal vs. McDaniel.

Tierson opened the scoring in the 15 minute off a penalty corner. Howard was originally given the assist but it was later changed to senior Laura Gretz (one assist, one defensive save), who got the final touch over to her classmate.

Tierson then fed Howard on a breakaway in the second half to clinch the road victory.

Juniors Emily Witzke (four saves) and Ali Bishop (two saves) combined for the shutout in the cage. Bishop has now played 79 scoreless minutes to open the season, while Witzke has a strong save percentage of .837 on 43 shots on target.

The Green Terror nearly scored just before halftime but Gretz recorded a defensive save, and Witzke blocked the rebound from Megan Quattrone.

McDaniel's Madison Downey also recorded a defensive save, preventing Howard from getting her second of the day late in the second half.

Bridgewater improves to 2-2 on the year. Updates will be posted soon about the Eagles' upcoming two games this weekend, with Hurricane Florence due to the East Coast.
