Golfers Finish 15th after Stellar Final Round at Jekyll Island
JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. - Senior John Phillips turned in a two-under, 70, final round to pace the Bridgewater Eagles golf team to a 15th-place performance at the 2012 Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational. The Eagles moved up five spots on the final day with a team total of +9, 297 over the final 18 holes.
Phillips' two-under final round pushed the senior into a tie for 15th place on the individual leaderboard as the Richmond, Va. native finished with a three-day total of +3, 219.
Junior Tod Foshee improved on his second round score by three strokes over the final 18 holes, carding a four-over, 76, on the final day of competition. Foshee finished in a tie for 58th on the leaderboard at +11, 227.
Senior Travis Gahman gave a stroke back on the final day en route to finishing in a tie for 80th place overall. Gahman posted a three-over, 75, over the final 18 holes of play to finish the weekend at +15, 231.
Sophomore Matt Dye showed the biggest day-to-day improvement for the Eagles as the Hartwood, Va. native turned in a final-round 76, to wrap up the weekend at +18, 234. Dye improved by seven strokes on the final day to slide into a tie for 94th on the individual leaderboard.
Finally, junior Bobby Fields also competed for the Eagles and turned in a +11, 83, on the final day to finish in a tie for 128th.
Perennial national power Methodist claimed the team championship by 12 strokes over host Oglethorpe, finishing up the three-day event at six-under, 858.
Methodist's Mike Wesko earned individual medalist honors, carding a four-under, 68, final round to finish the 54-hole tournament at -7, 209.
Bridgewater is back in action on Friday, March 30 when it heads to Camp LeJeune for the 41st Annual Marine Corps Intercollegiate.
