Men's Golfers in Seventh After Day One at Pine Needles Invitational
SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. - The Bridgewater Eagles men's golf team carded a team total of +39, 323, on the opening day of the 2013 Pine Needles Invitational to sit in seventh place on the team leaderboard after the first round at the Pine Needles Resort and Club.
Three Bridgewater players paced the way on a windy and cold opening day, carding a nine-over, 80. Sophomore Scott Wakely, senior Tod Foshee and freshman Elijah Tackett each shot an opening-round 80 to lead the way for the Eagles through one round of play.
Freshman Rhett Martin was Bridgewater's final scorer on the day. Martin posted a +12, 83, over the first 18 holes of action.
Junior Matt Dye also competed for the Eagles in the first round and fired a +13, 84.
Guilford leads the way on the team leaderboard after shooting a team total of +7, 291, on the opening day.
Bridgewater wraps up the two-day tournament on Tuesday morning, weather pending.
