GETTYSBURG, Pa. - For the second straight day Bridgewater was extended to overtime, but Saturday the final result was different as the Eagles lost to Moravian, 96-89, in the championship game of the Gettysburg College Tip-Off Tournament.
The Eagles led by 12 points, 73-61, with 7:18 remaining when Zach Breathwaite worked inside for a bucket. The Eagles maintained a working magin and the lead was still double digits when Breathwaite took a pass from Dimetri Chambers and finished with a dunk to put the Eagles up 75-65 with 5:12 left to play.
The Greyhounds then began to slowly whittle away at the Eagles lead. Elijah Davis knocked down a 3-pointer to cut the margin to seven, but a driving layup by Chambers put the Eagles ahead by nine, 77-68. Another 3-ball by Davis sliced the margin to six and Oneil Holder made 1-of-2 at the foul line, cutting the margin to 77-72 with 2:59 left.
Monte Simpkins made 3-of-4 free throw attempts to push the BC lead back to eight, but the Greyhounds struck again from long range when C.J. Barnes tallied from beyond the arc to once again make it a five-point game, 80-75, with two minutes left.
Following a timeout, AJ Horde scored on a layup to put the Eagles up 82-75, but Holder answered with a layup for Moravian to pull the Greyhounds back to within five with 1:19 left.
After an Eagles turnover, Davis scored on a layup to make it a one-possession game, 82-79. Breathwaite missed a short jumper and the Greyhounds tied the score when Barnes converted a three-point play with 42 seconds remaining in the game.
The Eagles worked the shot clock down and Horde missed a driving layup in traffic and Holder controlled the rebound for Moravian. The Greyhounds got the ball to Holder but his jumper at the buzzer wouldn't go down and the teams went to overtime knotted at 82-82.
Bridgewater scored first in OT when Horde made 1-of-2 foul shots, but the Greyhounds answered with a 3-pointer by Nicholas Casazza to take an 85-83 lead.
Bridgewater had the ball, trailing by one, 89-88, with the game clock approaching the one minute mark. Horde missed a shot from the lane and the Gryehounds tallied at the other end with a 3-pointer by Davis to lead 92-88 with 1:05 remaining.
Bridgewater's Miles Barrett made 1-of-2 at the foul line to make it a one possession game 92-89 with 47 seconds left. Moravian's Davis missed a 3-pointer with 27 seconds left, but Holder grabbled the offensive rebound and scored on the stickback to put the Greyhounds ahead by five points with just 22 seconds left.
Horde led the Eagles with 30 points and Breathwaite recorded his first double-double in an Eagles' uniform with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Chambers also reached double figures with 12 points.
Holder paced the winners with 27 points and 18 rebounds.
The Eagles return to Pennsylvania on Tuesday evening when the team travels to Chambersburg to play Wilson College. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
