Eagles Clinch Spot In ODAC Tournament With 1-0 Victory Over Quakers

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Bridgewater College picked up a huge 1-0 victory Saturday night at Guilford to clinch a spot in the upcoming conference tournament.

The Eagles will be no worse than a No. 7 seed when the ODAC tournament begins next weekend. Bridgewater last qualified for the conference tournament in 2006.

Bridgewater scored the game's lone goal early in the first half when Ryan Tavernaris (Staunton, Va./Fort Defiance) punched in a ball off the goal line after it was misplayed by the Guilford defense.

Guilford kept the pressure on the Eagles throughout as the Quakers held a 20-10 advantage in shots. Only four of the shots were on goal, however, and BC keeper Travis Morris (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) recorded the save each time.

The Eagles, now 7-9-1 overall and 4-4-1 in the ODAC, will close out their regular season Tuesday when the Eagles host rival Eastern Mennonite. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
