Eagles Blank Seagulls For First Win Of Season

Leo Alcantara runs up the field

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The Bridgewater College men's soccer team posted its first victory of the season Saturday afternoon as the Eagles blanked Salisbury 1-0 on the first day of the Seahawks Classic at St. Mary's College.

Saturday's contest marked the sixth straight year the Eagles and Salisbury have squared off at the Seahawks Classic. With Saturday's win, Bridgewater holds a 3-2-1 edge over the Seagulls in their six meetings.

Bridgewater scored the contest's lone goal in the 27th minute and the defense made sure that one goal was enough.

Eagles sophomore Leo Alcantara scored at the post after receiving a pass from Alex Piro to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

Sophomore goalkeeper Quentin Boric picked up his first college victory and first college shutout with a strong effort against Salisbury. The Seagulls held a 14-8 edge in shots and a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks, but Boric turned away six shots to help the Eagles record their first win in 2017.

Bridgewater returns to action Sunday when it meets St. Mary's. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
