BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Julian Ofori scored two goals in the first half Wednesday and that turned out to be enough as Bridgewater College blanked Emory & Henry, 2-0.
Ofori put the Eagles on the board in the 14th minute. The Eagles ' forward possessed the ball just outside the top of the box and worked free by spinning around his defender. With a clear shot of goal, Ofori lined a shot low and just inside the post for a 1-0 Bridgewater lead.
Bridgewater made it 2-0 off a set piece in the 25th minute. Sam Beckman took a corner kick for the Eagles and sent the ball toward the far post. Ofori headed the ball past the keeper and just across the line before a defender could clear it off the line to give the Eagles a 2-0 advantage. The goals were the first of the season for Ofori.
Bridgewater goalkeepers Quentin Boric and Colin Rouaud combined to keep the Wasps off the board. Boric played the first 75 minutes and had two saves. Rouaud finished up and had two saves in the final 15 minutes. The shutout was the second of the season for the Eagles.
The Eagles held a slim 13-11 edge in shots while the Wasps had three corner kicks compared to two for Bridgewater.
Due to the unbalanced conference schedule in men's soccer, Wednesday's contest does not count in the ODAC standings.
Bridgewater, now 2-4 on the season, returns to action this weekend when the Eagles travel to Emory & Henry for the Wasps tournament. Friday evening the Eagles play Anderson and on Saturday Bridgewater meets Southern Virginia.
