BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's soccer team took on the Lynchburg Hornet's Saturday afternoon on Family Weekend.
Lynchburg scored a goal in the first minute and never looked back as the Hornets blanked Bridgewater College 3-0 in the regular season ODAC matchup.
Lynchurg (10-1-1,4-0 ODAC), scored first on a shot from inside the box by Jon Mackey on an assist from Fredy Flores.
The score remained 1-0 until Lynchburg junior forward Zach Thomas scored on a rebound off the foot of a defender in the 34th minute.
Bridgewater had its best opportunities early in the second half. A fantastic corner kick from Leo Alcantara gave Garrett Logan a good shot but could not get it past Lynchurg goalie Dylan McLaurin, who had two saves in two opportunities.
The Eagles had two corners in the 71st and 74th minutes but were held to very little scoring opportunities after that.
The Hornets capitalized in the closing minutes of the game when Jon Mackley connected again on an assist from Fredy Flores. Flores crossed the ball from the right side and Mackley had an open shot to sneak it by BC goalie Quentin Boric.
The Hornets held a 19-4 advantage in shots and a 7-4 margin in corner kicks.
Quentin Boric finished with four saves.
The Eagles are now 5-7 on the season and 2-2 in ODAC play.
Bridgewater will return to action Wednesday Oct. 11 when the travel to take on Shenandoah at 7:00 p.m.
