Eagles Picked Second In ODAC Men's Tennis Preseason Poll

FOREST, Va. – Bridgewater College was picked to finish second in the 2013 ODAC Men's Tennis Preseason Coaches Poll released today.

The Eagles tallied 86 points and one first-place vote to place second in the poll behind perennial power Washington and Lee. The Generals received the other 10 first place votes and 100 points.  W&L is ranked No. 20 in the nation and No. 5 in the Atlantic South Region in the preseason rankings by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Guilford rounded out the top three in the ODAC preseason poll with 75 points.

The Eagles will be looking to back up a strong performance from a year ago. Bridgewater advanced to the ODAC Championship match in the spring of 2012 where the Eagles lost to Washington and Lee. Bridgewater returns five of its top players to the singles ladder in 2013.

Six Bridgewater returners earned All-ODAC recognition a year ago. Evan Stack at No. 4 singles, Christian Lynn at No. 5 and and No. 6 Sam Churchill were named to the All-ODAC second team in singles. Peter Hawkins at No. 1 singles and Brandon Larsen at No. 2 earned All-ODAC third-team recogntion. In doubles, Stack and Larsen were named to the second team at No. 1. Hawkins and Lynn were on the third team at No. 2 while Mike Cable and graduated teammate Brent Floyd earned a second-team All-ODAC honor at No. 3 doubles.

Bridgewater opens the spring season on Friday when the Eagles travel to Lynchburg to play Division I Liberty University.
