FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Several members of the Bridgewater College men's tennis team were in action Saturday at the ITA Southeast Regional hosted by the University of Mary Washington.
Bridgewater's Joe Dillenbeck and Josh Rodgers were in action in the Championship singles division. Rodgers pulled off an upset in his first match by defeating the No. 9 seed Justin Cemy of Christopher Newport 7-6, 0-6, 6-3. Rodgers then lost his next match to Swarthmore's Thibault Vernier 6-4, 6-4. Dillenbeck dropped his first match to Mary Washington's Derek Hagino 6-2, 6-2.
In the B2 singles flight, Nathaniel Horner dropped a three-set marathon to Mary Washington's Ryan Berry. Horner took the first set 6-4 but dropped the next two sets by the same 6-4 margin in each set.
In doubles action Emmett Johnson and Kris Stokes won two matches to advance to the semifinals in the B2 doubles flight. The Eagles duo edged Hampden-Sydney's Grayson Burns and Andrew Donelson 9-8 in their opening match and then defeated Stevenson's Alexander Kiblin and Drew Ryan 8-4 in the quarterfinals.
In the B1 doubles division, Horner and Freddie Roberts fell in their opener, losing a close 9-7 match to CNU's Bryce Coleman and Alexander Johnson.
Dillenbeck and Rodgers also came up just short in their first match in the Championship division, losing to Mary Washington's Hagino and Patrick Hughes 8-6.
Play in the ITA Southeast Regional concludes on Sunday.
