SALISBURY, Md. - Goucher College swept the singles matches Saturday to close out an 8-1 victory over Bridgewater in non-conferenece men's tennis action.
Bridgewater took its lone point in doubles as Goucher took a 2-1 lead into singles play.
The Eagles won the No. 1 doubles match as Joe Dillenbeck and Freddie Roberts edged Tetsuya Ota and Jack Hodges, 8-6. Goucher's Frankie Mullinix and Mike Herman blanked Emmett Johnson and Sonet Gandhi at No. 2 while the Gophers' Elliot Diehl and Slade Dumas slipped past Bridgewater's Kris Stokes and Nathaniel Horner, 8-6 at No. 3 to give Goucher a 2-1 lead.
The Gophers won all six singles matches in straight sets. Ota stopped Dillenbeck 6-1, 6-3 at the top flight while Hodges fought off Johnson 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2. Herman edged Roberts 7-6, 6-3 to win at No. 3 and Dumas defeated Horner 6-4, 6-0 at the No. 4 slot. At No. 5, Josiah Meekins turned back Stokes, 6-2, 6-3 while Josh Goldberg downed Gandhi 6-2, 6-4 to win at No. 6,
The Eagles are back in action Sunday when they play Salisbury.
