Eagles Defeat Polar Bears, 8-1

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Bridgewater College men's tennis team finished its stay at Hilton Head with an 8-1 victory Friday over Ohio Northern.

The Eagles took the early lead by sweeping the doubles.

Joe Dillenbeck and Josh Rodgers won at No. 1 doubles, defeating Vinh Thai and Hoang Do , 8-5. At No. 2 doubles, Freddie Roberts and Nathaniel Horner turned back Cody Hurley and Tim Kargl, 8-3. Kris Stokes and Emmett Johnson completed the sweep with an 8-6 win over Drew Sarno and Connor Christian at the No. 3 slot.

Bridgewater closed out the match, taking the first five singles flights from the Polar Bears.

Dillenbeck and Rodgers both won at straight sets at the top of the ladder. Dillenbeck defeated Thai 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 while Rodgers stopped Do 6-2, 7-6 to win at No. 2..

Roberts and Johnson each rallied from a first-et loss to win in split sets.. Roberts defeated Christian at No. 3 singles, rallying from a 6-0 loss in the first set to take the second set 7-6. A tiebreaker was played to determine the winner with Roberts prevailing 10-7. Johnson also lost his first set at No. 4 singles to Kargl 7-5, but rallied to win the match 6-1 (10-6).

Horner picked up the final point as he cruised to a 6-0,, 6-1 win at No. 5 over Tyler Frantz.

The Polar Bears picked up their lone point at No. 6 where Hurley edged Stokes in split sets.6-2, 4-6 (10-3).
