Cummings, Sohl Win Individual Titles On Day 1 Of ODAC Track & Field Championships

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Bridgewater's Eugene Cummings and Luke Sohl claimed individual titles Friday on the first day of competition at the ODAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship Meet hosted by Lymchburg College.

Cummings took first place in the long jump with a best effort of 21 feet, 11.75 inches. Cummings will have a chance to double on Saturday as he is the favorite in the triple jump.

Freshman distance runner Sohl set a new BC record in the 10,000 meters with a time of 32:20.74. Sohl will also have a chance to double as he is one of the favorites in Saturday's 5000 meter event. Senior Brian Barnett also picked up a points in the 10,000 with a sixth-place time of 34:40.23.

The Eagles advanced several runners through Friday's preliminary rounds on the track.

BC qualified two runners for the 100 meters final as Jacob Wright posted the fourth-best time at 11.09 seconds just ahead of teammate Keith Lance at 11.10.

In the 200, Julius Delbridge reached the finals with the third-best time of 22.34. Lance also qualified with the fifth-fastest time of 22.49.

Delbridge also moved on in the4 400 when he ran 51.16 - the fourth best time in the trials.

In the hurdles, Andrew Crumley and Daryus Beale both advanced. Crumley was fourth in the trials at 15.69 while Beale was seventh in 15.93.

In the 400 hurdles, Jevone Fentress placed seventh in the trials with a time of 57.39 - good enough to reach the finals.

Bridgewater finished Friday's competition in third place with 21 points. Lynchburg holds a commanding lead with 90 points while Shenandoah is just ahead of the Eagles with 24 points.
