NEW ORLEANS – After a stellar start to the second half of the season, the Bridgewater Eagles men's track and field team slid into seventh place in the South/Southeast Region rankings in polling announced by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Wednesday.
The Eagles earned a total of 126.73 points to sit in seventh place in the first rankings released for the indoor season.
Bridgewater had a number of solid performances last weekend at the Susquehanna Classic, with the men's distance medley relay squad leading the way by snapping the school record in the event.
Sophomore Luke Sohl also helped lead the wya for the Eagles as the Burke, Va. native was the top collegiate finisher in the 3,000 meter run, finishing in the runner-up spot.
Freshman Pete Monteleone and junior Stefan Vessels also turned in a number of solid performances for the Eagles in the jump events with Monteleone finishing third in the long jump and Vessels picking up a fourth place finish in the triple jump.
USA South foe Christopher Newport leads the region with 379.67 points, easily topping perennial Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) favorite Lynchburg which is in the runner-up spot. Emory, Birmingham-Southern and Mary Washington round out the top five in this week's rankings.
Bridgewater is back in action this weekend when it travels to Lynchburg for the Liberty University Open. Start time on Friday afternoon is set for 3 p.m.
