FOREST, Va. - Sophomore Luke Sohl turned in a stellar weekend for the Bridgewater Eagles men's track and field team at the Armory Collegiate Invitational in New York City en route to earning Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's track and field performer of the week honors.
Sohl opened the weekend by running the anchor leg of the Eagles' record-setting distance medley relay. The sophomore turned in a mile split of 4:18 to help lead the Eagles to a time of 10:17.20, crushing the school and conference record. The Eagles finished 10th in the event and broke the conference record, previously held by Lynchburg College by nine seconds.
On less than 12 hours rest, Sohl returned to The Armory on Saturday morning and took down the school record in the 5,000 meter run. The Burke, Va. native was the top non-Division I finisher in the field and finished with a time of 14:55.57 to place 11th overall in the college division race. Sohl's performance snapped the school record previously held by Nate Rittenhouse by over 21 seconds. The sophomore's time in the race is the lone sub 15-minute time in the ODAC this season.
Sohl and the rest of the Eagles are back in action on Friday when they travel to suburban Philadelphia for the Ursinus Invitational. Start time from Collegeville, Pa. on Friday is set for 4 p.m.
