In his two primary distance events, as well as being a member of the distance medley relay, sophomore Luke Sohl is the favorite and should contend for first place in his respective events at the ODAC Men's Track and Field Indoor Championship Meet at Liberty University on Friday.
In the mile, Sohl is ranked No. 1 with a time of 4:20.48. Only two seconds separate the top three in the event. The Burke, Va. native also holds first place in the 5000 meter run with a time of 15:05.16, a solid 17 seconds ahead of the runner-up.
The sophomore is also a crucial leg of the distance medley relay with teammates freshman Nevin Heckman, freshman Sam Gunther, and senior Tim Wisniewski. They are ranked first with a time of 10:25.60 and will strive to maintain first place as they currently sit 12 seconds ahead of the second place team.
Sohl will also shoot for top six in the 3000 meter run where he is currently ranked seventh with a time of 9:09.59. Sophomore Keith Thomas is ranked No. 8 right behind Sohl with a time of 9:12.70 and will contend for a top six spot as well.
In the 60 meter dash event, senior Tyler Beiler and sophomore Jacob Wright will battle for first place. Beiler is ranked third with a time 7.12 seconds and Wright is right behind him in fourth with a time of 7.13 seconds.
Freshman Pete Monteleone is the Eagles top runner in the 200 meter dash as he is placed fourth with a time of 23.42 seconds.
In the 400 meter dash, Gunther, ranked fourth, and Monteleone, ranked eighth, will be the best for the Eagles in a tightly bunched field. Gunther holds a time of 52.16 seconds, while Monteleone has a time of 52.78 seconds.
In another strong field, Wisniewski is placed third with a time of 2:00.76 in the 800 meter event, while Heckman is right behind him in fifth place with a time of 2:01.22. Both should score points for the Eagles.
Along with Sohl in the mile run, senior Ryan Speray is ranked No.6 with a time of 4:29.01.
In the 60 meter hurdles, Beale is ranked No. 3 with a time of 8.70 seconds and junior Ben Martindell is No. 6 with a time of 8.83 seconds.
The Bridgewater 4x400 meter relay team of Gunther, Wisniewski, Heckman and senior Keith Lance is ranked third this season with a time of 3:30.22 and will compete for first place.
Several jumpers should also score points for the Eagles.
In the high jump, freshman Jairus Akanni is No. 5 with a leap of 6 feet, 2 inches and Monteleone is close behind in No. 8 with a jump of 6 feet, ½ inch.
The Eagles also have a strong contingent of jumpers in the long jump event. Monteleone is ranked second with a mark of 21 feet, 11 ¾ inches. Freshman Ethan McBryde is placed sixth with a jump of 20 feet, 8 ½ inches and senior Eugene Cummings is in ninth place with a measure of 20 feet, 6 ½ inches.
Cummings, ranked No.4 with a best of 43 feet, 5 ¾ inches, and Monteleone, ranked No.8 with a top mark of 43 feet, ¼ inch, will contend in the triple jump.
Senior Jacob Kroko should score in both the shot put and weight throw events. For the shot, he is ranked No. 6 with a best throw of 44 feet, 7 ½ inches and in the weight throw, his best launch is 47 feet, 3 ½ inches which placed him in fourth for the season.
Friday's championship meet begins at noon for the field events and approximately 3 p.m. for the track events.
