Eagles Jump Up to Second in Regional Rankings

NEW ORLEANS – After a successful Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championship meet this past weekend, the Bridgewater men's track and field team jump from fourth place to second place in this week's South-Southeast Region poll.

Fellow ODAC team, Lynchburg College, continues to sit in first place in the region after winning its 16th straight ODAC Men's Indoor Championship title, 27th overall. Bridgewater topped Christopher Newport University, who is closely behind ranked in third place.

This past weekend at Liberty for the ODAC Championships, many Bridgewater athletes jumped into the regional rankings with their performances.

In the 60 meter dash, sophomore Jacob Wright is ranked fifth in the region with a time of 7.02, right ahead of senior Tyler Beiler who sit sin sixth with a time of 7.08.

Freshman Nevin Heckman is tied for fourth place with Kevin Delaney from Emory College in the 800 meter dash, while senior Tim Wisniewski claims eighth place.

In both the mile run and the 5000 meter run, sophomore Luke Sohl sits atop both events. After his ODAC Championship Meet record breaking performance in the mile with a time of 4:19.21, he earned first place in the region. With a time of 15:05.16, he continues to sit in first place in the 5000 meter run.

Juniors Daryus Beale and Ben Martindell are ranked fourth and fifth place in the region, respectively with times of 8.62 and 8.64 seconds.

The 4x400 relay quartet of Heckman, Sam Gunther, Wisniewski and Pete Monteleone are ranked in fifth after a 3:27.41 performance at Liberty.

Monteleone is also ranked third in the long jump with a best of 21 feet, 11 ¾ inches and senior Eugene Cummings jumped into eighth place in the region from this past weekend's best jump of 21 feet, 4 ¼ inches. Cummings also ranks second in the region in the triple jump after his first place showing at Liberty.

Senior Jacob Kroko moves up into second place in the weight throw regional rankings with a distance of 50 feet, 6 ¾ inches.

Bridgewater is competing in the Virginia Tech Last Chance Meet in Blacksburg this weekend and start time is set for 10 a.m.
