Men’s Track and Field Opens Indoor Season at Bast-Cregger Invitational

SALEM, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's track and field team began its 2016-17 indoor season at the Bast-Cregger Invitational hosted by Roanoke on Saturday.

Bridgewater's distance runners had a solid outing after four athletes finished among the top 10 in the 5,000 meter. Jamie Hiegel (15:13.53) placed second, Max Weidman (15:42.49) and Trey Gibson (15:49.67) finished 5-6 and Connor Maguder (15:57.33) earned ninth overall.

Adam Bailey ran a time of 2:42.98 for second place and Ian Vest claimed fourth on a time of 2:55.57 in the 1,000 meter.

Ryan Mays led the Eagles in the 600 meter with a time of 1:27.79 for sixth while Christopher Moore was 10th on a time of 1:29.65.

In the 200 meter, Brandon Christian (23.37 seconds) was second in his heat and eight overall. Daniel Breedlove (23.79 seconds) won his heat and finished 11th out of 26 athletes.

Breedlove paced the Eagles for fifth on a time of 37.24 seconds in the 300 meter, and Sam Smith took 10th in 38.55 seconds. Rashan Davis clocked a time of 7.26 seconds to crack the top 10 in the 60 meter dash.

Bridgewater had its best jumping effort in the long jump with Christian taking fourth place on a leap of 6.67 meters. Davis was sixth in the high jump after clearing 1.80 meters.

During the weight throw, Corey Huffman (12.19m), Austin Garlick (12.03m) and Christopher Jeffries(11.90m) finished 8-9-10. Huffman also hit 11.39 meters in the shot put.

A team of Mat May, Breedlove, Smith and Mays ran the 4x200 meter relay in 1:39.78.

The Eagles will return to action in 2017 at the CNU Tri-Meet hosted by Christopher Newport in Newport News, Va., on Jan. 13.
