Track and Field Adds Throwing Coach

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College track and field program has announced the hiring of assistant coach Rich Hiegel to oversee and train its throwers.

Hiegel competed in sprints, jumps and the decathlon as a member of the Frostburg State track and field team.

His teaching experience includes training young athletes at the Valley Mill Kayak School. One of his most notable athletes was 1992 Olympic gold medalist Joe Jacobi.

Hiegel also worked a season as an offensive line coach for the Bishop Walsh High School football team.

Before coming to Bridgewater, Hiegel spent the previous five years as CEO of an athletic eyewear company titled Blueye USA.

Hiegel received his Bachelor of Science degree in outdoor leadership from Frostburg State. He resides in Staunton, Va., with his wife Leath Hiegel and is the father of Colleen and Bridgewater College runner Jamie Hiegel.
