Bridgewater Indoor Track and Field Season Kicks into High Gear

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The holiday season has come and gone, but the 2017 indoor track and field season is just heating as Bridgewater College will compete in its first meet since December at the CNU Quadrangular tomorrow.

Bridgewater made its indoor season debut at the Bast-Cregger Invitational (Dec. 3) and will seek to build on their efforts in preparation for another conference title run.

The women's team has reigned over the rest of the conference's indoor track teams for the past three years, while the men's team has hoisted the league hardware for the last two seasons.

The women's side also sent two athletes to compete in the NCAA Division III Championships last season.

Amber Celen earned All-American in the 200-meter dash in which she set a new ODAC record time (0:24.86) in the preliminaries, and claimed 10th in the 60-meter dash. Graduate Kristen Trice competed in the pentathlon, earning 13th place on 3,075 points.

Besides Celen, the other returning All-ODAC athletes for the women's team include M'Kala Blue, Courtney Adams, Maryellen Hauver and Tye Meador.

The women's decorative 2016 campaign has earned the squad the 27th spot in the USTFCCCA pre-season national rankings.

The men's team won four individual events at the conference championships last year and two of those standouts set for another go. ODAC Rookie of the Year Davonta Womack won the 60-meter dash and long jump while Brandon Christian sprang his way to a win in the triple jump.

The men's side also returns a slew of All-ODAC second teamers in Danny Breedlove, Darin Council, Alex Galloway, Jamie Hiegel, Connor Maguder, Don Mills Jr. and Sam Smith.

The CNU Quadrangular hosted by Christopher Newport in Newport News, Va., is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
