Men’s Track and Field Ranks Fifth in South/Southeast Region Poll

NEW ORLEANS – The Bridgewater College men's track and field team is ranked #5 in the first release of the USTFCCCA South/Southeast Region poll.

Christopher Newport holds the #1 spot, followed by Emory, Washington and Lee and then Birmingham-Southern.

Bridgewater has five athletes with season-best efforts that rank inside the South/Southeast top eight performances.

Junior Darin Council holds top five regional marks in the two events. He is the only Eagle with a #1 mark, leaping 13.90m (45-7.25ft) in the triple jump at the CNU Quadrangular (Jan. 13). Council also recorded a distance of 13.59m (44-7ft) in the shot put that stands fourth in the S/SE charts.

Sophomore Brandon Christian is third in the region in the triple jump on a mark of 13.65m (44-9.50ft) and his distance of 6.67m (21-10.75ft) in the long jump ranks sixth.

In the 5000 meter, Jamie Hiegel clocked a time of 15:13.53 to slot fourth in the S/SE, and Alex Galloway blazed the 200-meter dash in 22.99 seconds at the CNU Quadrangular for seventh in the region.

Junior Prescott Terrell recorded a PR toss of 14.41m (47-3.50ft) in the weight throw that ranks #8.

The Eagles also recorded a top eight effort in the 4x400 as a quartet of Adam Bailey, Matt May, Galloway and Christopher Moore ran the event in 3:37.85.

Bridgewater will compete next on Saturday at the GMU Patriots Games hosted by George Mason in Fairfax, Va. at 10:00 a.m.
