Eagles Compete in Jopson Track and Field Invitational

The Bridgewater College men's track and field team hosted the 22nd annual Dr. Harry G.M. Jopson Invitational Saturday.

Senior Connor Maguder trailed on the last lap of the 1500m run but used a strong kick coming down the home stretch on the last lap to take the victory. Maguder completed the race in 4:09.68. Johnny Haizel-Cobbina (4:11), Trey Gibson (4:11.29), and Max Weidman (4:11.83) all finished in the top five, as the Eagles had four of the top five finishers in the race.

In the 4x100m relay, the pairing of Donovan Hollins, Brandon Christian, Brady Barefoot, and Alex Galloway sprinted to victory for the Eagles with a time of 43.54 seconds.

The hammer throw victory was captured by Prescott Terrell (49.55m/162'7") while his teammates Don Mills Jr. (35.30m/115'10") and Austin Garlick (35.26m/115'8.50") finished fifth and sixth.

Christian placed second in the high jump (1.80m/5'10.75") while freshman teammate Rashon Davis placed fourth (1.75/5'8.75).

In the triple jump, Bridgewater would claim first, second and third. Senior Darin Council finished first (13.36m/43'10"), Barefoot finished second (11.99m/39'4"), and Christopher Moore would finish third (11.94m/39'2.25"). Moore also finished third in the 110m hurdles with a time of 17.59 seconds.

Junior Daniel Breedlove jumped to the win in long jump competition with a mark of 6.51m/21'4.75". Barefoot finished third in the event (5.89/19'4"). Breedlove also finished second in the 400m run (51.33).

Besides Breedlove, the Eagles would place three other runners in the 400m. Ryan Mays (52.77) finished fourth, Myles Conley (54.10) finished seventh, and Joshua Smith (54.73) would finish eighth.

The 400m hurdles race would see the Eagles take the top three spots. Senior Kevin Hasenecz took first (58.75), Moore finished second (59.98), and Sam Smith would finish third with a time of 1:01.27.

Sophomore thrower Corey Huffman finished second in both the discus and javelin. In discus competition Huffman's throw was 41.75m/155'2.75" and in javelin his mark was 46.85m/153'8.75.

In the shot put competition, Bridgewater had participants place third, fourth, and fifth. Mills placed third (12.70m/42'1.25"), Prescott placed fourth (12.43m/40'9.50"), and freshman Tyler Russell finished fifth (11.88m/38'11.75").

Bridgewater will compete in the Liberty Collegiate Invite next Friday and Saturday at Liberty University. Friday's events start at 3 p.m. and Saturday's events start at 10:45 a.m.
