Eagles Finish Season With Strong Fifth-Place Finish At South/Southeast Regional Meet

SEGUIN, Texas - Bridgewater College finished its cross country season Saturday morning with a strong fifth-place finsih at the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional Meet.

The meet was a showcase for the ODAC as eight of the first 13 individuals and three of the top five teams came from the conference, including team champion Lynchburg.

Centre finished second in the team standings behind Lynchburg with Emory taking third. Guilford edged Bridgewater by one point for fourth place.

The Eagles placed two runners on the all-region team with freshmen Luke Sohl (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) and Tim Miller (Union Bridge, Md./Francis Scott Key) leading Bridgewater's runners. Sohl finished 13th overall with a time of 22:37.6 while Miller placed 24th with a time of 27:21.8.

Ryan Speray (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) placed 43rd with a time of 27:57.2 while Paul Johnson (Harrisonburg, Va./Turner Ashby) placed 55th with a time of 28:17.8. Troy Jackson (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) rounded out the Eagles scoring with a 59th place finish, posting a time of 28.23.2.

Brian Barnett (Winchester, Va./John Handley) placed 69th with a time of 28:35.4 and Abe Rittenhouse finished 98th in the field of 174 runners with a time of 29:15.9.

The Eagles return six of their top seven runners next season as Barnett in the only senior among the seven runners who competed Saturday for the Eagles.
