Penn Laird, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Men's Cross Country Championship will take place Saturday at Peak View Elementary School and Burtner Farm in Penn Laird, Va. at 11 a.m.
In the ODAC preseason poll, the men's cross country team was picked to finish the 2012-2013 season in second behind Lynchburg College.
Sophomore Luke Sohl led the Eagles last year at the Championship with a third place finish and a time of 26:01, which earned him the 2011 ODAC Rookie of the Year honor. This season in the three races that Sohl has run, he has paced the Eagles and has been the top finisher for Bridgewater. His best eight kilometer time was 25:25 at the CNU Invitational.
Freshman Matt Denlinger has finished in the spot behind Sohl in three races this year and his top time (26:21) was also at the CNU Invitational.
Senior Ryan Speray posted a time of 26:46 for his top time this season. Sophomore Tim Miller and junior Abe Rittenhouse are separated by three seconds in their top eight kilometer time of 27:04 for the pair.
Other Eagles to look out for on Saturday are freshman Nevin Heckman and sophomore Baylor Dickerson. Heckman finished in the top 25 at the EMU Royals Invitational and Dickerson finished sixth at the Doc Jopson Invitational.
The Eagles placed third with 69 points at the 2011 ODAC Cross Country Championship. Lynchburg College finished in first place and Guilford finished in second.
In last week's regional rankings, voted on by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, (USTFCCCA) Bridgewater was ranked in the number four spot. Lynchburg College was ranked in second place in the South/Southeast region.
In September the men's cross country team placed first at the EMU Invitational, while Roanoke, Washington and Lee and Lynchburg College took the next three spots. Lynchburg placed first at the CNU Invitational and the Eagles placed third.
