PENN LAIRD, Va. – Bridgewater College freshman Matt Denlinger was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Rookie of the Year and the Bridgewater Eagles men's cross country team placed second overall on Saturday morning at the ODAC Championships at Peak View Elementary School and Burtner Farm.
Denlinger crossed the line with a time of 27:41.69 to finish in 11th place overall, finishing as the top freshman in the field. With his performance, Denlinger also earned All-ODAC recognition.
Sophomore Luke Sohl was Bridgewater's top performer on the day, finishing in the runner-up spot. Sohl crossed the line with a time of 26:31.66 to finish in second place behind Lynchburg's Cody Stanton. The sophomore also earned All-ODAC honors for his efforts.
Senior Ryan Speray crossed the line on the 8K course with a finishing time of 27:44.61. Speray's finish was good enough for 13th place overall. His performance also etched his name to the All-ODAC list.
Bridgewater's scoring five was rounded out by back-to-back finishes from Abe Rittenhouse and Tim Miller. Rittenhouse finished the course with a time of 27:50.37 to finish in 15th. Miller finished right behind Rittenhouse in 16th place with a time of 27:52.61.
Lynchburg College claimed the team title for the fifth straight year. The Hornets finished with 28 total points to top the Eagles by 29. Roanoke, Guilford and Washington and Lee rounded out the top five in the team standings.
Bridgewater is back in action on November 10 at the NCAA South/Southeast Region Championships in Atlanta.
