BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's cross country team will travel to Hampton, Ga. on Saturday for the NCAA South/Southeast Regional cross country championship. Emory University will be hosting the eight kilometer championship on Nash Farm Battlefield at 10 a.m.
The Eagles are coming off of a second place finish at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's cross country championship and are led by first team All-ODAC selection Luke Sohl.
Sohl was Bridgewater's top performer and finished in the runner-up spot with a time of 26:31.66.
Freshman Matt Denlinger crossed the line in 11th overall earning him Rookie of the Year honors. Denlinger finished with a time of 27:41.69.
Sohl and Denlinger have held down the number one and two spots for the Eagles throughout the season.
Senior Ryan Speray finished the ODAC Championship in 13th place with a time of 27:44.61. Speray has consistently held the Bridgewater number three position all season.
The most recent poll released by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the South/Southeast region ranked Bridgewater seventh. Emory holds the first place ranking followed by Centre. Lynchburg College is currently ranked third in the poll after a win at the ODAC Championship. Trinity (Texas) comes in fourth place followed by Christopher Newport and Rhodes. Mary Washington, Hendrix and UT Tyler round out the top ten teams in the region.
