Men's Cross Country Finish Sixth at South/Southeast Region Championships

Jamie Hiegel finishes sixth at regional championships.

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – Jamie Hiegel led the Bridgewater College men's cross country team to a sixth place finish in a 32-team field at the NCAA South/Southeast Region Championships hosted by Christopher Newport on Saturday.

Christopher Newport earned the region title on 43 points. Bridgewater took sixth on 200 points.

Hiegel was the only Eagle to finish in the top twenty, finishing sixth in the 8K event with a time of 24:22.1 to earn All-South/Southeast Region honors. 

Junior Robert Theimer was the next BC runner to finish, coming in 23rd at 25:17.0, also good for All-South/Southeast Region honors. 

Bridgewater had two more runners crack the top-50. Max Weidman was 46th with a time of 25:58.7 and Johnny Haizel-Cobbina was 50th at 26:00.2.

Grayson Reid, of Christopher Newport, was the individual champion for the second straight year with a time of 25:02.9.

Hiegel's sixth place finish qualifies him for the NCAA National Cross Country Championship, which will take place at Principia College on Nov. 18.
