Eagles come up short in first game of NCAA Tournament

The Bridgewater College softball team came up on the short end of a 3-2 decision to CNU in the first game of the NCAA Regional Softball Tournament on Thursday morning in Salisbury, Maryland.

The Eagles jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single by Kaitlyn Bowman and an RBI double by Caity Butler. CNU answered right back in the top of the second inning with 2 runs of their own on 3 hits and 1 costly BC error in the inning to tie the score at 2. The game then became a pitching dual as BC's Ashley Gills and CNU's Lindsay Kelly each held their opponent scoreless over the next 4 innings.

In the top of the seventh inning, CNU was able to push across the go-ahead run on an RBI single by Taylor Morgan with 2 outs. In the bottom of the seventh inning, BC's Mallory Sandridge led off with a double but the Eagles were unable to come up with any runs as CNU claimed the 3-2 victory over the Eagles.

With the loss, BC drops to the losers' bracket and will play top-seeded Lynchburg College later this afternoon in an elimination game for the Eagles at 4:00 p.m.
