Sarah Heretick, a senior catcher on the Bridgewater Eagles softball team and May 2012 graduate, earned Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) College Division All-State softball second team honors following voting conducted among the state’s sports information professionals.

After posting a 33-12 overall record during an outstanding 2012 season, three Bridgewater Eagles softball players were selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region team in voting conducted among the region’s coaches.

Five Named to Softball All-Conference Teams; Heretick Named to First Team
In a release by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) office, the Bridgewater Eagles softball team had five players named to the All-ODAC team following voting conducted among the conference coaches. Senior Sarah Heretick led the way for the Eagles with the program’s lone first team selection.

Second-seeded Roanoke College put three runs on the board and added four more runs over the final innings of play as the Bridgewater Eagles softball team didn’t have enough firepower to overcome to early Maroons onslaught in a 7-2 loss in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) softball tournament title game.

Softball Holds Off Virginia Wesleyan, 3-2
Top-seeded Virginia Wesleyan scored a run and had two runners on in the bottom of the seventh before a pop up to the shortstop ended the ball game as the Bridgewater Eagles softball team earned a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Marlins to move on to championship round play at the 2012 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) softball championships.

Bridgewater College took the lead in the top of the fourth inning, but the second-seeded Roanoke Maroons scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth to drop the Eagles to the loser’s bracket of the 2012 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) softball championships with a 3-1 loss on Saturday afternoon at the James I. Moyer Complex.

Conference-leading Virginia Wesleyan (27-10, 17-1 ODAC) held the 23rd-ranked Bridgewater Eagles softball team to just five hits on the afternoon and used two homeruns to sweep the Eagles on Wednesday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action at the BC Softball Field.

Junior Melanie Lamb drove in the winning run with the bases loaded in the ninth inning of game one to hand the 19th-ranked Bridgewater Eagles softball team a 2-1 victory, but the Eagles couldn’t get enough offense in game two as they settled for a split in a conference twinbill with visiting Randolph-Macon.

Behind outstanding pitching performances in both halves of a non-conference twinbill, the Bridgewater Eagles softball team picked up its 11th win of the year with a doubleheader sweep over Averett at Cougar Field. Bridgewater took game one by a 3-0 score, before posting a 3-1 victory in nine innings in the nightcap.

Bridgewater also defeated Sage by a 9-1 score in five innings in the first game of the day to earn the daily sweep.
