Softball Falls Four Spots to 23rd in Latest Coaches Poll
STARKVILLE, Miss. – After going 0-2 in limited action last week, the Bridgewater Eagles softball team fell four spots to 23rd in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Poll released on Wednesday afternoon.
Bridgewater dropped both halves of a doubleheader last week at Christopher Newport. The Captains climbed two spots to 10th place in the most recent survey of the nation's Division III coaches.
After hovering at No. 2 for the past month, Emory received six of eight first-place votes to become No. 1 in the NFCA Division III Top 25 Poll, the association has announced. The Eagles are currently in the middle of a 10-game win streak, including winning the UAA championship in mid-March. Emory has two regular season games remaining, wrapping up today with a home doubleheader against Covenant.
No. 2 Eastern Connecticut continues its own winning streak of 29 straight, having not lost since its second game of the season. Previous No. 1 Linfield went 3-2 at this past weekend's Northwest Conference tournament, losing twice to No. 5 Pacific Lutheran. The Lutes will receive the automatic NCAA bid after taking down the Wildcats 3-0 in the championship, while Linfield will await its regional fate. No. 4 Luther continues to roll as well, currently sitting at 30-4. To view the entire poll, click here.
The Eagles are in action on Wednesday afternoon against Virginia Wesleyan in a key conference twinbill for seeding for the upcoming Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tournament which opens play on Friday.
