KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Baldwin Wallace scored two runs in the second inning Wednesday afternoon to take an early lead and the Yellow Jackets went on to defeat Bridgewater College, 9-5.
With two outs and no one on base in the second, Nikki Turner singled to right-center for the Yellow Jackets. Lexi Ripperger singled through the right side and Abbie Thompson walked to load the bases. Alexis Boledovic followed with a single up the middle to score two runs.
Baldwin Wallace added two more runs in the fifth inning. Boledovic led off the inning with a triple and scored on a single by Alex Kozich, making the score, 3-0. Kozich took second on a groundout and scored on a base hit by mackenzie Milligan for a 4-0 advantage.
Bridgewater pulled closer with a run in the bottom of the fifth on a solo homer by Victoria Gontarz to make it 4-1, but the Yellow Jackets tacked on five more runs in the seventh to go up 9-1.
Sami Minor drove in two runs with a double and then she scored on a double by Erica English, making the score 7-1. Ripperger drove in the final two runs with a single.
The Eagles fought back in the bottom of the seventh to score four runs.
Brianna Whorley walked to lead off the inning and moved to second on a wild pitch. A groundout moved Whorley to third before Lindsey Talley reached on a walk and then stole second. With two outs, Katie Merhout was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Mikalia Guard followed with a grand slam homer to left, making the score 9-5. Baldwin Wallace went to the bullpen and reliever Abby Cosart retired Stephanie Carroll on a line drive to end the game.
