EMORY, Va. - In the squad's first ODAC dual meet of the season, the Bridgewater Eagles swim team claimed the top spot in 10 of the 11 events en route to a 150-39 victory over the Emory & Henry Wasps.
Bridgewater top home the top spot in every race except for the 500 meter freestyle event, including a pair of individual victories by sophomore Danielle Dillon (Roanoke, Va./Hidden Valley). Dillon was victorious in both the 200 and 400 meter freestyle events.
Leading the way in the individual events were a pair of record breaking performances from a tandem of freshmen.
Freshman Jessica Abbott (Nathalie, Va./Chatham Hall) took down the 100 meter butterfly record with a first-place finishing time of 1:14.66.
Fellow freshman Carrie Crowther (Burgess, Va./Northumberland) claimed the top spot in the 100 meter backstroke event, with a record-setting time of 1:16.29.
Crowther and Abbott also swam in the two relay events, both of which were victorious for the Eagles.
Sophomores Jeni Zeiler (Lutherville, Md./Baltimore Lutheran) and Patricia Haden (Harrisonburg, Va./Turner Ashby) also took home individual victories for the Eagles. Zeiler claimed the top spot in the 100 meter breaststroke in a time of 1:29.64, while Haden earned the victory in the 800 meter freestyle, touching the wall in a time of 11:31.83.
Finally, freshman Michelle Caron (Palmyra, Va./Fluvanna County) won the 200 meter individual medley in a record time of 2:47.33, before senior Lauren Clymore (Staunton, Va./Riverheads) rounded out the individual victories for the Eagles in the 100 meter freestyle event (1:12.99)
Bridgewater is back in action next Saturday as the squad opens the home season when it hosts Greensboro. Action from the Nininger Pool is slated for a 1:00 p.m. start.
