Swimmers Win Every Event in Victory over Hollins
HOLLINS, Va. - Behind victories in all 11 events contested, the Bridgewater Eagles swim team got the new year off on a strong note with a 166-36 victory on Friday evening at Hollins University.
Bridgewater got the evening off on a strong note with an easy victory in the 200 yard medley relay. The quartet of Shannon Myers, Jeni Zeiler, Emily Townsend and Carrie Crowther touched the pad in a time of 2:01.60. Bridgewater took home the top three spots in the event.
Junior Michelle Caron got the individual events off to a good start with a victory in the 1,000 yard freestyle. Caron finished with a winning time of 12:13.50 to top senior teammate Danielle Dillon who was the runner-up with a time of 12:23.44.
The Eagles took home the top five spots in the 200 yard freestyle event. Crowther paced the field in a time of 2:06.63, while Josie Hawkins, Gabby Harbour, Ashleigh Pugh and Samantha Arnold finished 2-5, respectively.
Sophomore Annalee Gallagher kept the wins coming with a victory in the 50 yard freestyle. Gallagher touched in a winning time of 26.31 seconds to edge out Hollins' Claire Webber by three-quarters of a second.
Freshman Allie Stewart took home the top spot in the 200 yard individual medley, pacing a field that had three Bridgewater swimmers in the top three. Townsend and Zeiler finished second and third, respectively.
In the 200 yard butterfly, Myers was the top finisher, edging out Harbour for the win. Myers paced the field with a winning time of 2:28.68.
Crowther became the evening's first two-event winner with her victory in the 100 yard freestyle. The Burgess, Va. native topped Gallagher for the win by touching the pad in a time of 56.65 seconds.
Myers picked up win number two of the evening in the 200 yard backstroke. The sophomore finished in a time of 2:27.16 to pace the field and lead an all-Bridgewater top five.
Dillon reigned supreme in the 500 yard freestyle, pacing a Bridgewater top three. The senior finished with a time of 5:56.15. Kelsey Hess finished in the runner-up spot, while Hawkins took home third place.
Townsend wrapped up the individual events with a tight victory in the 200 yard breaststroke. The freshman finished in a winning time of 2:44.03.
In the final event of the day, the Eagles relay team of Harbour, Dillon, Jennifer Lutz and Gallagher won the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:52.29.
Bridgewater is back in action on Saturday on the road as it wraps up a busy weekend with a dual meet against Washington and Lee. Start time is set for 2 p.m.
